Mrs. Funke Adekoya (S.A.N) Appointed as a Vice-President of the LCIA African Users' Council
The Nigerian Legal Profession on the 8th of February, 2013 was given a great recognition through one of its Inner Bar Member. The International Legal Community through one of its highly esteemed body: London Court of International Arbitration
(LCIA), a body with major objective to establish, foster and maintain links between the LCIA and users, and prospective users of its
services, to enable the LCIA to ensure that the arbitration and ADR
services it provides to its users worldwide are relevant, cost
effective, efficient and consistent with current best practice, appointed a Nigerian Lawyer as one of its 4 Vice President. The person so appointed is to occupy that office and shoulder the affairs of the body for the next three years.The Nigerian Legal Practitioner so recognized and honored with this task is the person of the grate Silk; Mrs. Funke Adekoya (S.A.N). She joins
arbitration practitioners from the United Kingdom, Kenya, Tanzania,
Uganda and Nigeria in heading the Users Council.The Learned Silk who has always spoken on the need balance their home and career for them to be successful i their chosen field has again proven that she does just "talk the talk but works the talk".

Mrs ‘Funke Adekoya is a Partner at ǼLEX, one of the largest full
service commercial law firms in Lagos Nigeria where she heads the
Dispute Resolution practice group. The Learned Silk obtained a Second Upper Law
degree from the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife in 1974, graduating top
of her class with 3 Faculty prizes to her credit. After obtaining her
professional legal qualifications from the Nigerian Law School in 1975
and completing the mandatory National Youth Service year, where she
commenced her career in private legal practice, she attended Harvard Law
School, Boston, Massachusetts USA where she obtained her LLM in 1977.
As head of the 15 member dispute resolution practice group, she provides legal representation to domestic and offshore clients, and advises foreign counsel on matters of Nigerian law. She has acted within Nigeria and abroad either as counsel, co-counsel or Nigerian law expert in both international and domestic litigation and arbitration proceedings; and has appeared as an expert on Nigerian law issues in courts in Turkey, the UK and the United States.
Silk Funke is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, also a Chartered Arbitrator and currently the Chairman of the Nigerian Branch. She is also a member of the board of the newly established Lagos Court of Arbitration; is listed on the Energy Arbitrators List by the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, is a member of the African Users Council of the London Court of International Arbitration and the African representative on the Editorial Board of Arbitration News, the journal of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association. She is also a member of the IBA Task Force on Professional Conduct of Counsel in International Arbitration.
She was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in September 2001.
